An asbestos management survey is the standard survey required to manage asbestos in any building built before the year 2000. Its main purpose is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation work.
The survey will also assess the condition of the ACMs found and determine whether they need to be managed, repaired or removed. A detailed written report and asbestos register is provided following the survey.
Why is it Required?
Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, the duty holder of any non-domestic premises built before 2000 has a legal duty to manage asbestos. This means identifying whether asbestos is present, assessing the risk it poses, and putting a plan in place to manage it. Failure to comply can result in significant fines and prosecution.
